On Friday, January 17th, 2025, rising melodic metal act Motions unveiled their brand-new single, "Wastelands". The band has already garnered widespread acclaim, with glowing reviews from industry heavyweights like Metal Hammer, Powerplay Magazine, and Backseat Mafia. This early praise solidifies Motions as a band poised to dominate the metal scene in 2025 and beyond.

In writing and recording Wastelands, the band were inspired by several bands old and

new. There’s a clear and obvious love for 2000s screamo such as Underoath, fused with

the modern edge of bands such as Bring Me the Horizon and Knocked Loose.

The band state: "We aimed to create a fresh feeling, punk-rock infused emo, metalcore

anthem. We recorded the song independently, giving it a rebellious, fearless vibe. It was

vital that the chorus soared melodically, emphasising the track’s urgency.”

Band frontman Jonny Granted added: “The song encapsulates love of our home region,

Teesside, but also the limitations a small-town can place on artists, both geographically

and emotionally. Being from a small town, it’s easy to have an inferiority complex when

creating art. But if you can harvest that angst into a rebellious energy, you can stand out

from the pack and let it be your fuel. Teesside isn’t the creative wasteland some may

think. I’m the world’s worst photographer, so we ironically used a photo I randomly

took of Saltburn to emphasise the cynical and ‘fuck you’ message of our song.”

Novacaine Rating: 10/10 "‘Wastelands’ is just the beginning for Motions this year. This band is brimming with raw energy and undeniable talent, and I’m confident that 2025 will be the year we see them take the industry by storm.”
