Download Festival 2026: A Weekend of Discovery Within Limits
The UK’s premier annual rock festival, Download, returned to the hallowed grounds of Donington Park from 10–14 June 2026. Headlined by three legendary acts, Limp Bizkit, Guns N’ Roses, and Linkin Park, the festival once again drew thousands of fans from around the world. Yet while these iconic names dominated the bill, it was the rising stars further down the lineup that truly convinced us to buy a ticket this year.

Before we get started, a quick disclaimer: we attend Download as access customers due to disabilities, so we have to be very careful with our energy levels throughout the festival. We often refer to this as managing our "spoons", with only a limited number available each day, every set, walk, and late night has to be considered carefully. Overdoing it can leave us dealing with injury, fatigue, or burnout, so unfortunately there were some acts we weren't able to catch this year. We'll still be highlighting those artists at the end of the article as bands and performers we'd love to see at future festivals.
Also worth mentioning, we use Download as our yearly ‘Holiday’, not necessarily to go as a reviewer, but we wanted to mention some of the acts we got to see this year.
While Wednesday and Thursday passed in something of a haze, serving primarily as our opportunity to settle in, recharge, and conserve energy for the weekend ahead, Friday through Sunday delivered everything we could have hoped for. From standout performances by established favourites to unforgettable sets from some of the festival's most exciting emerging talent, the final three days of Download 2026 were nothing short of spectacular.
FRIDAY 12TH JUNE -
Kicking off the weekend for us on Friday were Caskets, a band we've been following for several years and one that absolutely blew us away. Their set was the perfect way to start our Download weekend, delivering an energetic and emotionally charged performance that immediately set the bar high.
As longtime fans, finally hearing Glass Heart live was a genuinely special moment. It's one of my all-time favourite tracks, and the band performed it flawlessly, drawing a huge reaction from the crowd and creating one of our standout memories of the festival.
CASKETS are a band we'd be honoured to work with in the future, and their Download appearance only reinforced why they've become such a staple in our playlists. If you missed them at Download or you're on the fence about catching them live take this as your sign to go. You won't be disappointed.
Then came Lake Malice. What. A. Set.
Their performance wasn't just impressive, it was explosive. From the moment they stepped on stage, the energy was relentless, and the crowd responded in kind. The photo above barely scratches the surface of what was happening in the pit; everywhere you looked, people were moving, jumping, and feeding off the band's infectious energy.
Opening with Magic Square, one of my personal favourites, Lake Malice immediately set the tone and never let up, tearing through a set packed with one banger after another. Every track landed, every chorus hit, and the atmosphere only intensified as the performance went on.
The addition of dancers on stage was a fantastic touch, elevating the visual side of the show and adding another layer to an already captivating performance. Meanwhile, Alice Guala proved exactly why she's one of the most exciting vocalists on the scene right now, delivering an incredible performance that effortlessly balanced power, precision, and presence.
Lake Malice are a band that deserves your attention. If you didn't catch them at Download, make it a priority to see them the next chance you get. Trust us you'll have an absolutely fantastic time.

(We forgot to take a picture, oops)
Next up for us was Electric Callboy. Now, we know they don't exactly fit the "rising act" category, these guys are firmly established at this point, but we'd be doing this article a disservice if we didn't mention them.
Having unfortunately missed their Download appearance in 2024 after they were forced to pull out, finally getting the chance to see them on the Download stage felt long overdue. Thankfully, they were every bit as entertaining as we'd hoped.
Electric Callboy have spent the last few years absolutely dominating the scene, carving out a unique space where metalcore, electronic music, and pure chaos collide. More importantly, they know exactly how to throw a party. Whether you're a lifelong rock and metal fan or someone who usually gravitates towards pop music, there's something about an Electric Callboy set that pulls you in and refuses to let go.
The energy throughout their performance was relentless, the crowd participation was immense, and their stage presence was simply on another level. Every song felt like a celebration, and it's impossible not to get swept up in the fun when a band is clearly enjoying themselves as much as the audience is.
Put simply, if your goal is to have a good time, Electric Callboy rarely miss. Their Download set was proof of exactly why they've become one of the most talked-about live bands in modern alternative music.
(Once again, no picture from us, we were very much in party mode at this point)
Friday's final act for us was Limp Bizkit. As this article is focused primarily on the rising stars of Download 2026, we'll keep this brief: they were everything you'd expect from a headline act. This was our second time seeing them at Download, and once again they delivered a performance worthy of closing out the day. They did not disappoint.
SATURDAY 13tH JUNE -
Oh look, we got a picture! (TropicGold ft Harpy!)
Kicking off Saturday morning for us were your Novacaine Festival 2026 sub-headliners, Tropic Gold. Believe it or not, this was our first time seeing them perform live and they absolutely blew us away.
From the moment they stepped onto The Dogtooth Stage, every track seemed to send shockwaves through the crowd, providing the perfect cure for any lingering Friday night hangovers. For a band playing at 11am, they had no trouble getting the audience moving, with a pit opening up for much of their set no small achievement at that time of day.
From the production to the sound, everything about the performance felt polished and purposeful. As if the set wasn't already impressive enough, the band also brought out Harpy to perform their latest single, Witch House, a genuinely special moment that drew a huge reaction from the crowd.
Tropic Gold delivered one of the most memorable sets of our weekend and left us wondering why it had taken us so long to see them live in the first place. If this performance was anything to go by, Novacaine Festival attendees are in for an absolute treat later this year.

We know, our pictures aren’t the best, we’re not pros, I’m sorry!!
Next up on Saturday were your Novacaine Festival 2026 headliners, As Everything Unfolds. This was our second time seeing them at Download Festival, having first caught them back in 2022 on the Avalanche Stage. Even then, it was clear that this was a band destined to become a major force within the alternative scene.
Download 2026 only reinforced that belief. Originally scheduled to perform on The Dogtooth Stage, the band was moved to the Opus Stage after a last-minute schedule reshuffle involving Drowning Pool, and they took full advantage of the larger platform. The result was a performance that felt like a statement of intent from a band continuing its upward trajectory.
As Everything Unfolds delivered an outstanding set packed with energy, passion, and confidence, showcasing exactly why they've become one of the most exciting names in modern alternative music. Their performance captivated not only existing fans but also those who had initially gathered to see Drowning Pool. From our position towards the back, chosen to help manage the crowds, we watched people leave their camp chairs behind and head straight into the audience, while conversations around us suggested plenty of newcomers were becoming fans in real time.
Hearing Gasoline live was a particular highlight. Charlie Rolfe was phenomenal throughout, delivering a powerful vocal performance while commanding the stage with seemingly endless energy. The rest of the band matched that intensity, and from what we could see, the crowd responded in kind.
If this Download performance was any indication of what's to come, Novacaine Festival attendees are in for something truly special later this year. As Everything Unfolds aren't just living up to their potential anymore—they're exceeding it.
From this point onwards, Saturday became a much busier and more demanding stretch of the day at Download. Between stage changes and energy management, we only managed to catch a brief portion of Lowen on The Dogtooth Stage, but even that short glimpse left a strong impression.
What we did see of their set was nothing short of compelling. As we were making our way past the food vendors, the performance stopped us in our tracks; the sheer presence and atmosphere coming from the stage was impossible to ignore. Vocalist Nina Saeidi delivered a striking, powerful vocal performance that immediately demanded attention, cutting through the festival noise with ease.
We stayed long enough to catch a couple of songs before heading back to camp to rest and reset, and we’re genuinely glad we did. Even in such a limited time, Lowen made a lasting impression, and they’re firmly on our list of artists we’d love to see again with a full set in the future.
We also caught sets from BABYMETAL, Behemoth, and Architects, all of which impressed us even from a distance during a very busy part of the day.
Architects, in particular, delivered a set that further reinforced why they belong on the Opus stage and beyond. On current trajectory, they feel like inevitable future Download headliners, and arguably already at a level where they could have taken that position this year.
We didn’t catch Guns N' Roses, as it wasn’t a priority for us, but the rest of the afternoon more than made up for it across multiple stages.
One of our highlights of the weekend was catching up with Fangslinger at their meet-up next to the now-infamous Ferris Wheel. We rarely get the chance to meet up with people at Download, largely due to the lack of signal across the site, so being able to properly catch up with them felt genuinely special.
It was also great to see a local rising act taking the time to connect with fans in this way at a festival of this scale. Moments like this are what make the experience feel more personal, and it was easily one of the standout non-performance highlights of the weekend.
Yes, I am aware the second picture caught me chatting.
SUNDAY 14TH JUNE -
Unpeople were exactly the kind of wake-up call Sunday needed. What a band, what a show, an ideal way to kick off the final day and shake off the fatigue of a demanding weekend.
Vocalist Jake Crawford set the tone immediately, opening with a shouted “WAKEY WAKEY!”, which summed up the set perfectly as the band dragged the early crowd straight into full attention.
2026 marked our second time seeing Unpeople, having first caught them last year, and both performances have left a strong impression. While they’re not necessarily a band we’d consider ourselves dedicated fans of in terms of regular listening, they’re absolutely unmissable live. If they’re on a lineup, we’ll be there, no question.
There’s an undeniable sense of star quality about them on stage. Everything feels tight, intentional, and relentless in energy, and it’s hard to ignore the trajectory they’re on. Even those in our group who were completely unfamiliar with them walked away impressed, which says everything about the impact of their set.
Okay, we know what you’re thinking, Bloodywood. They’re already fairly well known in certain circles, but we still felt they were absolutely worth mentioning here, as there will inevitably be people at the festival who haven’t come across them before.
We’ll keep this short, but their set was a clear reminder of why they’ve built such a strong reputation live. Everything about their performance was packed with energy, intent, and crowd engagement from start to finish.
This is a band that is absolutely worth seeing if you ever get the chance, if they’re on a lineup, do not skip them.
After this, we witnessed The Plot In You. We didn’t manage to grab a picture as I was in such an “in awe” state, this is one of my all-time favourite bands, and I was too in the moment to even think about it.
Again, we know this is a well-established band at this point, but they are absolutely unmissable live if you get the chance. The Plot In You, we know you’re likely not reading this, but if by some small chance you are, we would be honoured to have you perform at Novacaine Festival in the future.
Following them, we witnessed Ice Nine Kills, Bad Omens, and Linkin Park. All of which rounded off our weekend in absolute style, and it felt like a privilege to hear tracks from my teenage years being performed live.
While it was, of course, bittersweet knowing it wasn’t with the late legend Chester Bennington, Emily Armstrong delivered an incredible performance and left me with lifelong memories.
Overall, Download Festival 2026 is a year I’ll never forget. So many memories were made, and we got to witness some truly incredible acts across both rising and established artists throughout the weekend.
I do want to add, though, that I’m slightly disappointed I wasn’t able to catch quite a few other sets this year. Novacaine is all about new music discovery, with a strong focus on rising acts from around the world, but this year my body simply couldn’t cope with the amount of movement required across the site, and the fatigue was very real. As a result, we spent most of our time at stages closer to camp, and it genuinely felt like the festival was even busier than in previous years.
With that said, we still had an amazing time with the bands we did manage to see, and we’ve made the decision not to return to Download next year. That’s not a reflection on the festival itself, it’s simply no longer the most suitable fit for me personally. Instead, we’ll be focusing more on smaller gigs throughout 2027, and potentially other smaller festivals, so we can better align with our focus on discovering and supporting emerging artists.
As promised, we also want to highlight a number of acts we intended to see this year but unfortunately didn’t manage to catch. From everything we’ve heard, each of them delivered outstanding sets, and they’re firmly on our radar to check out properly in the future:
Headwreck, Slay Squad, Silly Goose, Drain, Silent Planet, Tailgunner, Lowen, Mouth Culture, Thornhill, South Arcade, Private Function, Annisokay, Zero 9:36, Magnolia Park, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Thrown, and Letlive.
All of them come highly recommended, and they’re now on our list for future gigs and festivals.
