TROPIC GOLD UNLEASH NEW SINGLE, SODIUM

Your Novacaine Festival 2026 sub-headliners, or better known as one of the South East’s most exciting rising alternative acts, TropicGold, unleashed their brand-new single ‘sodium’ on September 29th, 2026.

Released on 29 September via BLKIIBLK, ‘sodium’ sees TropicGold continue to push deeper into the darker, more intense side of their sound, following their recent collaboration with HARPY, ‘WITCH HOUSE’.

At the heart of ‘sodium’ is the idea of being drawn towards something despite knowing that it could ultimately lead to destruction, the irresistible pull of something, or someone, that you know may not be good for you.

TropicGold describe the track as “a story of two things being drawn together despite the destruction”, leaving the meaning deliberately open to interpretation. It could be the story of two people, a relationship, or even the internal struggle of being unable to let go of something that you know is hurting you.

Even the title plays into that sense of physical and emotional exhaustion. TropicGold draw a direct connection between sodium and the things we experience when pushed to our limits:

“The element of sodium itself is in tears and sweat, what you can taste and feel in exhausting and painful situations.”

That physicality carries through the track, with ‘sodium’ exploring vulnerability, attraction and the parts of ourselves that we might otherwise try to hide. At the centre of it all sits the question: “Will you take that freak in me?”

It is a question that perfectly encapsulates the track's central theme, whether we can truly allow ourselves to be seen in our most unfiltered form, and whether someone else can accept those parts of us when they surface.

There is something inherently uncomfortable about that idea, but that is precisely where ‘sodium’ finds its strength. Ultimately, ‘sodium’ explores what it means to know that you are falling, recognise where that fall could take you, and still crave the feeling enough to give in anyway.

‘sodium’ also marks TropicGold's second release through BLKIIBLK, following ‘WITCH HOUSE’ earlier this year, further establishing this darker chapter of the band's sound.

And, for us at Novacaine, there is an added reason to be paying attention.

Tropic Gold will bring ‘sodium’ to Sheffield on 28 November, when they take to the stage as Novacaine Festival 2026's sub-headliners at Corporation, joining an already stacked lineup featuring As Everything Unfolds, TheCityIsOurs, Hacktivist, Glass Bridges, FOXHAUNT, Night Thieves, The Mechanist, The Heir Apparition and WNSDY AT 7.

If ‘sodium’ is anything to go by, we're going to be in for one hell of a set.
