We're going to hand straight over to downcast frontman Liam Edwards, as he's the only one who can do justice in explaining their new single:
"‘falling to pieces’ is about my little brother who passed away last September at the age of twenty-eight. He struggled with severe alcohol addiction for a long time, which eventually caused fatal medical complications.
The song was written during a time of confusion, before we understood exactly what took him from us. All I knew was that nothing could change what had happened. The song captures the anger and frustration I carried while learning to accept this."
falling to pieces features a guest appearance by Tyler Zanon of Youth Fountain, adding his distinct tones to further increase the emotional heaviness of the track.
Away from preparing for the release of their new single, downcast recently announced a brand new UK headline tour. Taking in shows in London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol, the tour will also see downcast trade places with their support band, UK pop punks Stay Safe, to take on support duties for the last two dates of the tour in Manchester and Huddersfield.
Novacaine Rating: 10/10
“Downcast have held a special place in our hearts ever since the release of their 2025 EP, Nothing Left To Give. Yes, we know, we were late to the party, but since discovering it, they've been on constant rotation.
Their latest single, "falling to pieces," is every bit as devastating as its title suggests. Written about vocalist's younger brother, who tragically passed away last September at just 28 after a long battle with severe alcohol addiction, the track is an intensely personal expression of grief, anger, and acceptance. The band explain that the song was written during a period of confusion, before they fully understood what had happened, capturing the raw emotions that came with losing someone they loved.
It's a deeply moving and emotionally charged release that transforms unimaginable pain into something both beautiful and relatable. For anyone who has experienced loss, falling to pieces is a poignant reminder that grief is messy, overwhelming, and ultimately something we all learn to carry. An absolutely heartbreaking listen that deserves to be heard.”
